    1997

  • The second single from the new album, "Carnival Game," was released from Victor Entertainment in Japan on Apr. 23, and its item # and price are V-VIDP30002 and 948 yen, respectively. The CD single includes "You Let A Lotta People Down."

  • Howard Stern's "Private Parts," which features "I Want You To Want Me," made its debut at No. 1 on The Billboard 200 on March 7.

  • Rick and Robin are said to have written a song called "Glitter" with Motley Crue's Nikki Sixx and Tommy Lee for the new Crue album, Generation Swine, in the studio in Febrary. "Glitter" will be on the album, which is scheduled to be released in Japan on May 25. Tom denies this collaboration, however.

  • Cheap Trick's 1st single, "Say Goodbye," was ranked 14th by the hugely popular Japanese TV program called "HEY HEY HEY Music Champ" (overseas pop chart) on Feb. 17, just three days after the release of the new album! It's pretty amazing considering the fact that the single hasn't been released here yet. The chart takes account of sales and radio chart among other factors. Since the record company hasn't sold just one copy yet, radio chart is solely responsible for the ranking.

  • Cheap Trick's new '7 single was released from Sub Pop on Feb. 25. They started taking orders for the single online Sub Pop web site on Feb. 4.

A brand new song, "Baby Talk," and a cover of The Move's "Brontosaurus" will appear on the side-A and -B, respectively. The A-side was previously said to be a new version of "Downed." Chicago producer, Steve Albini, produced the new single.

  • Have you got a remastered "In Color" album (ESCA7603) yet? Epic/Sony Records released the limited edition CD utilizing 20 bit mastering technology called SBM (Super Bit Mapping, TM) in Dec. '95, and they plan to remaster and market all the other albums as well in Japan this year.

  • Fuse album was released for the first time in the form of CD from Epic/Sony exclusively in Japan Oct. 21. The price is 1,600 yen (about $14). I bought one already. Do I like it? Yeah, but I'm glad Rick and Tom met Bun E. and Robin.

  • Japanese version of Sex, America, Cheap Trick was released from Epic/Sony on Oct. 21. It consists of the same songs as the U.S. version. The price? A lot more expensive at 6,500 yen (about $58).
